Rapid tournaments (Schnellschach) around Hamburg 13

Rapid chess, Schnellschach in German, fills the one-day tournaments of the Hamburg calendar. SV Lurup plays nine rounds of fifteen minutes on 3 October and a youth rapid for under-16 players on 31 October; the Schachfreunde Sasel hold Schach am Markt in the parish hall of the Vicelin church; and the Peter-Dankert-Turnier of the Schachfreunde Hamburg doubles as the open Hamburg rapid championship.

The Schachvereinigung Blankenese has a rapid open and a youth cup at Knabeweg 3, and one of the more unusual settings is the Schachbrettblumen-Schnellschachturnier in the Loki Schmidt Garden in Klein Flottbek. The SVE-Neujahrsturnier on Redingskamp opens the year, Union Eimsbüttel and the Herbert-Kretzschmar-Pokal add more, and in Pinneberg the open rapid championship was played as chess960 in 2026.
