About this list

Hamburg chess is organised in clubs, and most of them are old: the Hamburger Schachklub von 1830, the Altonaer Schachklub von 1873 and Union Eimsbüttel von 1871 are among the names on the federation's register. The Hamburger Schachklub plays at its chess centre on Schellingstraße on four evenings a week; others are chess departments of sports clubs such as FC St. Pauli, the Niendorfer TSV, SV Lurup, the Wandsbeker TSV Concordia and the ETV, where Union Eimsbüttel plays.

Club evenings usually start at 19:00 and are held in parish halls, school buildings, sports centres and senior meeting places, from the Dreifaltigkeitskirche in Hamm to a school pavilion and the Räucherkate in Volksdorf. The Altonaer Schachklub holds an open evening for visitors on Wednesdays. Beyond the city line, the Pinneberger Schachclub, Schachfreunde Wedel, SV Großhansdorf, Schachklub Norderstedt, TuRa Harksheide and the Ahrensburger TSV complete the map. Each entry gives the club night and the room where a page names them.
